Robbie Horton was back in action at Indianapolis Supercross
on Saturday Feb. 9th. Robbie
after a year full of injuries in 2001 was glad to be back on a bike. Robbie has joined the LamontRacing.com team
with major sponsors WSA Snowcross and Nielsen Enterprises, which he plans on
giving plenty of exposure in the 125cc East coast series.
In his first race on a Supercross track in over a year was a
day qualifier in which there was heavy competition with two factory KTM riders
in his qualifier (Grant Langston, Steve Boniface). Robbie had a mid pack start but he blitzed on the inside of the
first turn and moved into third place.
Robbie rode well and finished a few seconds back of the factory bikes.
Next up was the night event and Robbie said, “I was a little
nervous at the gate for the heat race but got through it.” Robbie rode a steady race after a poor
start and qualified his WSA Racing Nielsen’s Enterprise Honda CR125R for the
main event.
In the main event Robbie had a poor start but after a couple
of laps he found himself racing alone.
Robbie said, “The main event was steady and uneventful. I settled in quickly and really never had
any battles in the main event. I did
move up in the race but that was because Langston launched it at the end of the
whoops and the flashing strobe lights told me someone was down on the triple
(Michael Byrne). I finished 12th
in my first race back.”
“I’m happy to make it out of my first race healthy but what
was frustrating is that I must of practice over 200 starts before coming here
and by my starts you would’ve never have known. Next week is Minneapolis and we’ll see what happens!”
VRM Note – Robbie will be contesting the 125cc East Coast
Series and riding select outdoor national races. Robbie said, “I will most likely not participate in any west
coast races.”
