Team Richmond Racing/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki's Darcy Lange put
in his best weekend of the 2004/2005 US National Arenacross Series at the final
round in Columbus, Ohio this past weekend.
After entering the weekend with the championship already
wrapped up, Lange was out to have fun, put in some strong rides and show why he
holds the number one plate. While Lange already had the championship wrapped
up, teammate Jeff Northrop went into the final round looking to wrap up second
overall in the overall standings.
Friday's action:
Friday night was the Darcy Lange show all over again. After
feeling good throughout Thursdays press day and Friday practice, Lange came out
swinging in the 125 main event. After running away with the main event win, it
was off to the Dash for Cash where Lange and teammate Evan Laughridge finished
one-two. In the 250 main, Lange would again win this time beating Washington's
Brad Hagseth.
In 125 action, teammates Evan Laughridge and Jeff Northrop
had terrible luck with crashes. Both riders were riding well all night but
mistakes kept them from showing their full potential. "Norcal"
finished Fridays 125 main in 16th with Evan taking 13th
at the checkers. In the 250 main event, Evan rode great finishing 4th
in the main. Northrop and his Pro Circuit KX250 crossed the checkers in 7th
giving him valuable points in the overall standings. Colton Facciotti also made
his return to racing in the 250 main event taking home 14th after
coming off a very serious neck injury.
Saturdays Racing:
Saturday again marked a run-away show by Darcy Lange and his
Ian Woods prepped Kawasaki's. After a clean sweep Friday night, Lange was out
to make it a clean sweep during night two's racing.
In the 125 main event, Lange would again pull off the win
giving him his 27th win on the season. Teammates Laughridge,
Facciotti and Northrop would all have their own troubles during the mains.
Facciotti, in his first race back off a broken neck was just looking to have
fun and gain some experience. After being off for 3 months, Facciotti put in 15
solid laps taking home 10th. Teammates Northrop and Laughridge
rounded the checkers in 13th and 16th, not where either
wanted to be. Both riders were motivated to come out swinging in the 250 main
event.
The 250 main event marked a big turn around for Northrop and
Laughridge. Both riders came out of the gate well and both riders put in 20
solid laps. When the checkered flag fell, it was Northrop rounding out the
final podium position in 3rd with Laughridge taking home 4th.
The 250 main event marked Darcy Lange's 28th main event win of the
season, but it also capped off his second championship season with the perfect
weekend.
As the series is now complete, Lange ended the season with a
175-point lead over teammate Jeff Northrop. "Norcal" took second
overall 12-points ahead of Chad Johnson. Evan Laughridge finished the season in
seventh, not bad for his first full season in US arenacross. Teddy Maier was
forced to miss the final round after breaking his foot the week prior, Teddy
still managed to pull down a twelfth place finish in the overall standings
after missing the final four main events due to injury.
US National Arenacross Series Rookie Colton Facciotti
finished the series in twenty-fifth. The overall finish does the young Canadian
no justice though as he was forced to miss 8 rounds of the series after a
serious neck injury at round one of the series in Des Moines. Columbus, Ohio
marked the return of Colton to the series and now the team will begin outdoor
testing for the Canadian National this summer.
